colonnaded atrium that
covers 3.500 sqm. The

Archaeological site

Olympia the birthplace of the
Olympics was a sanctuary dedicated to Zeus. The sanctuary was surrounded by an
enclosure separating the
temples and other
religious buildings from
the non religious ones.
While few restoration
have been carried out on
some major structures

This neoclassical building it was the first museum ever built near an archaeological site in order to house the findings of the sacred precinct of the Altis.
The design was by the german architects F. Adler and W. Dorpfeld who were leading the excavations in Olympia.All
